Woman Accidentally Mails Cat Over 260 Miles

Like us, you may be wondering how in the HECK this is even possible, but apparently a woman accidentally mailed her cat on an 8 day journey through the post - and the brave little kitty survived!

Cupcake's owner, Julie Baggot, was mailing DVDs from Cornwall to West Sussex - a distance of over 260 miles (!) and somehow mailed the cat inside the box. She told BBC.com:

“I feel terrible about what’s happened, you know. I mean, I put everything in the box and I sealed it straight away, so I don’t know how she managed to get in there.

Thankfully, the cat was microchipped (yay!!) and the owner was identified and contacted as soon as the cat was discovered and taken to the local veterinarian.

The immediate questions that come to mind for us, though:

  • Would you not have heard meowing come from the box?
  • Would the box not have been 8-10 pounds heavier than you would expect?
  • How would you seal a box without realizing that your cat was in it?!

Grove Lodge Vets, a vet facility in the package's destination city - Worthing, West Sussex - checked Cupcake after she was discovered and gave her a clean bill of health - other than dehydration and "being scared and nervous."

If you check out the BBC.com video here, you can see the owner being reunited with Cupcake - she seems genuinely baffled as to how Cupcake got in the box - but if we know anything about cats, we know how much they love boxes!
