UK pet food company Green Pantry has launched a luxury cat food called British Banquet - it includes line-caught salmon, caviar, and saffron.

We love our cats, but unfortunately can't necessarily (or aren't willing to?) shell out 9,000£ per year - which translates into over 11,000 US dollars! WHAAAAAAAT.

The company lists British Banquet's ingredients as including:

  • Line caught Scottish salmon
  • Hand caught Norfolk lobster
  • Locally sourced Devon crab
  • Organic asparagus
  • Quinoa
  • Saffron - "for that extra touch of luxury and refinement"

It does boast "human grade raw materials," as well as no wheat, corn, or grain, and the fact that it's free from preservatives, GM, additives, and artificial colors. It's also hypoallergenic and holistic (the company's slogan is "Holistic Health Food For Pets").

Translated in US dollars, one 4.4 lb bag will set you back $309.66. One month's supply will cost roughly $930, and one year's supply will deplete your life savings (just kidding, kind of) - at $11,160. And that's if you live in the UK. Shipping to the United States (or anywhere else) will cost $61 per 4.4 lb bag (so, about $2,200 for a year's supply).

Most veterinarians would agree however, that asparagus, saffron, and quinoa are not essential to a cat's diet since they are by nature, avid carnivores. But if you have an extra 13K to spend on cat food, please by all means, let us know what your fur baby thinks of this stuff! Green Pantry isn't messing around either - their homepage boasts that British Banquet is the "world's most expensive cat food."
