Just In Time For July's Pet Hydration Month, Thomas Gets A PetSafe Water Fountain

This month, we're working with PetSafe® Brand to bring awareness to Pet Hydration Month, happening all July. Thomas the cat reviews his new Petsafe Brand Drinkwell 360 Multi-Pet Fountain!

Let's face it. The only fur son of a cat blogger, Thomas is SPOILED, y'all. And to reiterate this point, we received a free Petsafe fountain in exchange for our - er, Thomas's - honest review.

Thomas got to pick from a few different fountains, and in the end (after much deliberation!) decided he wanted to try the Petsafe Brand Drinkwell 360 Multi-Pet Stainless Steel Fountain.

I asked him, "Are you sure? You know 'multi' means 'many' pets - and this fountain is just for you."

He said, "I'M THIRSTY, WOMAN!"

What Thomas wants, Thomas gets.

What Thomas wants, Thomas gets.

Reviewing a fountain this month is also very apt because July is Pet Hydration Month. Did you know that each day, your pet needs one ounce of water per pound of body weight? So for a 10 pound cat, that's at least 10 ounces of water! And more if your pet is very active or exposed to heavy heat.

If you're not paying attention, it can be easy to overlook the symptoms of dehydration. Here are some common signs:

  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Lack of energy
  • Excessive/ongoing panting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sunken, dry eyes
  • Dry and sticky gums
  • Loss of skin elasticity

Here is a helpful (and hilarious) video with some tips on determining whether or not your pet is thirsty (HINT: they are.):

And, did you know that while we humans are made up of 60% water, dogs and cats are made up of 80% water!? Just another reason why it's super important to make sure your pets stay hydrated this summer (and well, all year round!)

I've always tried to counteract cats' natural lack of interest in water by feeding Thomas wet food, and running the faucet when we're both near - he likes the running water and is more inclined to drink from the faucet than from his water bowl. But I can't be around 24/7 to turn on the faucet for His Majesty, so I loved the idea of a pet water fountain.

A little bit about the Petsafe Brand Drinkwell 360 Multi-Pet Stainless Steel Fountain:

  • It can hold up to 1 gallon of water
  • The replaceable charcoal filter removes bad tastes and odors, keeping water super fresh
  • Stainless steel is more hygienic and - bonus! - it's easy to clean
  • Dishwasher safe (excluding pump)
  • Low voltage, plug-in operation (it's really quiet!)
  • It is super stylish (no eyesores in this chic pet owner's home!)
  • It helps to prevent bacteria growth
  • It has multiple water streams so more than one animal can drink at the same time (or, if you have one spoiled pet like Thomas, he or she can choose which stream to drink from!)

A personal note about the multiple fountain streams - I have noticed that Thomas will drink out of one stream and then walk around the fountain to drink out of another stream. Score! More time spent hydrating is always good.

I must also note that all these box pictures were taken on different days. I almost put it in the recycling since usually, his interest in new boxes lasts for a day or two and then he moves on to something else - but not this box! This box was the be-all-end-all of fun boxes! He literally sits in it every day.

Heaps of endless fun. Also, how can you resist that face?!

Since we got the fountain, I have noticed Thomas drinking a LOT more than he used to. This makes me super happy and I feel like I'm doing something good for my cat. The only thing is that you have to change the filter every 2 weeks which means that I need to a) purchase additional filters and b) remember to change them in a timely manner. One more thing to remember? Oy! But I think it's worth it if it helps my fur child's overall health. As a pet owner, I give this product two big thumbs up, and Thomas gives this product two big paws up for the tasty, fresh water he gets to drink.

And yes, Thomas, we're keeping the box.
