Good news, cat lovers! The Pet Food Manufacturers' Association (PFMA) recently released its new Pet Data Report and we're here to share the cat-tastic news!

Even though the PFMA is UK-based, these statistics should generally hold true in the US as well (but we'll let you know when US findings come out). From their interviews of over 8,000 UK adults:

-44% of UK households have a pet (any type of pet)

-Cat population has increased by 500,000 (which is largely driven by a rise of over 25% in the number of men owning cats)

Heart melting.

-Cat ownership in young people (ages 16-34) and mid-age range (35-44) also rose this year

Here is a breakdown of the UK's most popular pets this year:

Cats have always been on social media but we have definitely noticed more men openly expressing their love for their feline friends. We now see more male celebrities talking about their cats such as ...Ed Sheeran(Graham) and Russell Brand (Morrissey). It is possible that this trend may have triggered an increase in popularity for cats among the general male population, which is great news for rehoming cats.

Celebs and other influencers making cats "cool" encourages adoption and gets cats out of shelters and off the streets! Let's get a cat (or two or three!) in every household.
