Kittydelphia: Visit Philly's First Cat-Themed Pop Up Event Happening July 7-9, 2017
Organized by Philadelphia-based cat lady extraordinaire Laura Kicey, best known for her cats Olive and Rye (whose Instagram account boasts almost 100K followers!) and her store Olive & Rye Cat Art, where she sells custom cat portraits and cat-themed art, apparel, and home goods.
Kittydelphia will feature cat-themed vendors and goods including:
Polydactyl Cats - whimsical cat toys designed and hand made by Randi Warhol
Xenotees - hand-printed shirts, totes, and other apparel by Noelle Burke
The Dancing Cat - cat-themed cartoons and prints
Cherished Paws Gems - maker of feline bowties and jewelry
The Dark Side Cookies - creative cookie artist
Kittydelphia will also welcome three local celebri-cats: Turbo Two Legs, a dashing tuxedo cat who has rear-leg paralysis but lives the best life ever (he and his owner are also advo-CATs for adopting special-needs kitties); Sophie the Model, a black-cat spokesmodel with a larger than life purr-sonality (we Interviewed Sophie a while ago and she'll crack you up - trust us); and Miss Raspberry, a gorgeous 4-year old Persian cat with an adorable underbite.
We caught up with Laura for a quick Q&A; here's what she had to say:
That Cat Blog: What inspired you to organize Kittydelphia?
Laura Kicey: Ever since I went to CatCon in 2015, I wished there were other options for events for cat enthusiasts - big and small, all over the country. I have been to other events since and I love the diversity of what I have been seeing develop - and watching the stigma of being a "crazy cat lady" start to lift. I don't think I'm quite ready to host a larger scale event just yet but I wanted to organize something locally, involving cat-loving maker-friends I have made in the area, with a focus on women-owned businesses.
TCB: What is the main goal for this event?
LK: Having traveled a fair amount to conduct cat-business, I have seen the unity and excitement of cat-lovers living in LA and NYC plenty. I really want to connect the community here, in the flesh. I'm guilty of being a hermit too much and I know plenty of other people in the area who just stay at home with their cats rather than be social. I want to meet them and them to meet each other so we can all snuggle cats together and swap stories of the ridiculously cute things our cats are doing. I also am a huge fan of Philly PAWS and I support what they do, so I want to raise money for them, so they can keep saving the kitties of Philly.
TCB: Are pets allowed at the event?
LK: The group that owns the space is actually a bunch of D-O-G lovers and they have been informed that it will be a dog-free zone that weekend. Only pre-approved kitties are allowed - that includes Sophie, Turbo, Miss Raspberry and the adoptable kitties from PAWS... and maybe a few surprise guests.
TCB: Anything else about the event we should know?
LK: Some of the vendors will be creating special Philly-themed designs just for Kittydelphia, myself included. We are still looking for donations for our raffle benefiting PAWS, but already we have great prizes from MeowBox and CatLadyBox, Elfie's Dapper Boutique, Antonio and Frankie, Philadelphia Independents as well as our vendors! We really want the Philadelphia 76ers Ben Simmons to show up and raise the cat, but he seems to be busy raising more dogs lately. #raisethecat

Kittydelphia has also partnered with local no-kill shelter Philly PAWS. Donations and all proceeds from their raffle will benefit Philly PAWS, who will also have adoptable kitties on site throughout the weekend.
