Interviews With Cats: Thrasher Cat Is On A Lifelong Mission For Treats
Welcome to our first ever installment of "Interviews With Cats!", a new series where - you guessed it - we interview our favorite cats!
First up is Thrasher Cat, a fun-loving kitty who does tricks and lives for treats! He has over 12,000 followers on Instagram (!) - follow him @thrasher_cat. Thrasher has a surprisingly great vocabulary for a cat, and if you're reading this at work, his antics will leave you stifling giggles behind your cubicle partition wall. Read on!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: People call me many things... Thrash, Psycho Cat, Cutie Cat, Thrasher Dasher, but you can just call me Thrasher! I am a year old and I live in the sunny state of Arizona! I’m an only child, and I like it that way.
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: The lady who my parents adopted me from had named me Tinsel! (Yes... yes... you can laugh). My parents could tell right away that that wasn’t actually my name. They tried many names like MoMo, Zuko, Albus, and Yoda. I was a very talkative kitty and tried to tell them what my real name is, but since they don’t speak cat fluently I had to show them what my name was. I showed them how awesome I am at attacking toys, shoe laces, fingers, and toes. That’s when they knew I couldn’t have a cute little name like MoMo because I’m such a hardcore cat. I thrash everything in my path (well not really because I’m not allowed to but I totally would) so that’s when my dad finally caught on and said “Thrasher!” Therefore, I am Thrasher cat.
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: The most exciting thing that has ever happened to me was when I became a brand ambassador for an amazing bow tie company Trax Ties! Whoohoo! And when I had my first cat treat.
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: My best day ever was when I learned to ride a longboard. My parents were so happy with me and I got SO many treats! It was such a happy day. I even kept going back onto the longboard to tell my parents I wanted more treats but since they don’t speak cat they didn’t understand. They kept saying “No, Thrasher... you’ve had enough!” Humans...
Q: What's your favorite treat?
A: My favorite treat is meat. Chicken, tuna, steak, you name it! It’s my favorite. I’m also currently a big fan of those ProPlan Dental Crunch Cat Snacks right now.
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
A: Sometimes I get the crazy frenzies because nobody will listen to me when I say I want more food. So this one time... I was super upset because I wanted all of the food in my food bag, and my parents told me no. I was maybe 5 months old at the time, I looked them in the eyes and scratched the couch for maybe one whole second (I’m hardcore, I know) just because I know they don’t like that. I got put in time out on my scratching post for 5 minutes after that... They say “Go to your bed!” and I run and jump onto it and then they say “Stay!” and I have to wait until they say I’ve calmed down to come out of time out. When I switch my face from punk face (yes I have a legit punk face) to cute face they know I’m ready to come out and get some pets and lovin’. That was my last time scratching the couch.
Q: What's your favorite holiday and why?
A: My favorite holiday has to be Christmas because my parents feel extra happy and generous during that time of year. This is also the time of year I was adopted and every year they put up a shiny tree just for me!
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I think when I grow up I want to be a lion. I’ve seen them on tv! They look so cool, and I know I’m so cool, so it’ll work. I’m going to be a lion. Either that or a model.
Q: What's your favorite toy and why?
A: My favorite toy has to be... bobby pins and wrappers. I’ll play fetch with those all day. They’re the most fun toys. My parents have bought me other “cat toys” but they’re not nearly as cool. My mom did make an invention for me though out of a wand toy with feathers “Da Bird” because sometimes I get a little bored of it alone. She thought, since I love wrappers so much, she’d wrap a wrapper around the toy, and it was a big hit with me!
Q: Do you have any special talents you'd like to share?
A: I have many special talents! I have the loudest meow (my parents say it all of the time), I can make many faces: the curious face, the too cute face, the punk face, and the “Can I have it?” face. I have mad jumping skills and I can run as fast as a cheetah (that’s what I’m assuming at least). And... oh yeah! I’m clicker trained! I know around 14 tricks. A few of my favorites are high five, shake, spin, “Let’s Ride!” on the longboard, and sit pretty (beg).
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
A: You know how I do tricks and get food? Well, when my parents are eating people food without me (unacceptable) I do tricks without them even asking me to and stare into their eyes or try to give them high fives so they HAVE to give me some of their food. Makes sense, right? I do this every time! I’m a genius! I’m very persistent, so this works more than my parents would like to admit, and my parents still can’t decide if this is too cute or kind of annoying.
Q: What's your favorite color?
A: My favorite color is tuna color. That's the best.
Q: Do you have a best friend? If so, who?
A: Oh yeah, I have a best friend/cousin cat. Sokka is trained like me and looks like me too! So we play, train, and eat together.
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: My favorite pastime is to stick bobby pins underneath the rug, and then stick my arms under the rug frantically to reach it. I also really like to sneak attack those things. They never see it coming. It’s so fun.
Q: Anything else you'd like to share?
A: The very last thing I would like to say is that I hope other kitties will try to learn some tricks too! I love doing tricks so much because I get treats, it’s fun, and it can be good exercise for me too! You’ll even catch me purring as I do it. It’s been a way for my parents and I to bond and communicate even though we don’t speak the same language. As cats, we are super smart, and my parents tell me I catch on very quickly! Plus, you get treats, treats, and more treats! Who doesn’t like that? Thank you so much for interviewing me! This has been so much fun! Peace out boy scouts!
