Interviews With Cats: Jellico & Tugger of Tabby James!
Welcome to another edition of Interviews With Cats! This week we are excited to bring you a glimpse into the world of Tugger and Jellico, the Tabby James kitties! You may have seen their cute mugs on Tabby James' product pics or on their Instagram. Curious about these elusive fluffsters? Look no further!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: Hello there! My name is Jellico, but mom calls me Jelly, J, or Jelly Belly. I'm 13 years old, but I'm a kitten at heart. I live in Seattle with my pet ginger Maine Coon, Tugger, aka Tugboat or Tugger boy (at least, we think he's a Maine Coon, or a mix of some sort…). Mom insists that he's the same species as me, but I think she just says that to make him feel better. We all know she just got him as a pet for me… even if we are the same age.
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
Jellico: Tugger and I are both T.S. Elliot cats, named after his Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. My name comes from "Jellicle cats" (mom says it fits me because I'm "mysterious"). Tugger's named after Rum Tum Tugger, which I think suits him - he's a pretty boisterous boy.
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
Tugger: I got to fly all the way from South Africa to Seattle in the US. It was super exciting and took a loooong time!
Jellico: I'm a bit of an aspiring model, and mom's new cat business has given me a chance to shine. I've been perfecting my best angle (that's every angle, mind you), and I was even featured on the front page of the website when it launched. I think it's time mom started carrying her own tote bag around because it's only a matter of time...
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
Jellico: Well, I don't like to brag, but I recently won a competition on Instagram for "if it fits I sit." I got my 15 minutes of celebkitty fame just for sitting in the most comfy wicker basket that I don't quite fit in. Who knew all those years of box sitting would pay off. We got an unbelievable amount of gifts (Thanks, Healthy Spot!), and I felt great because I made mom really proud.
Tugger: The day mom started a cat brand was the best day ever. Unlimited catnip and toys at our disposal! Sometimes I snoop around mom's desk for a sneak preview. I hope I get more toys, and a comfy blanket, and maybe a special pillow… oops, I think I said too much!
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
Tugger: I'll eat anything. No, really. Try me. I also love tummy rubs. I wait on the couch after dinner for the family to come heap attention on me and rub my belly. This is the life!
Jellico: I prefer experiences to edibles. Give me a paper ball or a catnip toy, and I'm happy. Play time with mom and dad is the best time of the day.
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
Tugger: We never get in trouble (especially Jellico, little miss perfect). But one time dad got in trouble with mom for locking me out on the balcony for more than half an hour! I used to go outside all the time, but now that I've had a taste of the indoor life, I sure don't miss it. I wanted back in, so I cried and cried, but he couldn't hear me even though he was on the same floor. Mom somehow heard from two floors down and came to my rescue. Dad was in big trouble after that!
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
Tugger and Jellico: Thanksgiving and Christmas! We get turkey from our favorite local pet food brand, Darwin's Pet and it is delicious.
Tugger: Mom also likes to dress us up all cute for Christmas. I don't mind, but Jelly says it's "undignified," whatever that means. My favorite part, aside from the yummy turkey, is chasing the little catnip-filled reindeer mice around. So fun!
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
Jellico: Tugger and I are 13 years old… we are grown up. Well, I am, anyway. I think Tugger might want to be a human scratching post, though. He loves those tummy rubs so much.
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
Jellico: Back in the day, I was quite the hunter. Hummingbirds, lizards… anything that moves, I'd hunt it down and capture it. These days, I prefer to laze around indoors, but mom has these awesome noodle toys that I just can't resist. They remind me of my hunting days (even if the catch doesn't taste quite as good as the real thing).
Tugger: Catnip was the best thing mom ever brought home. I love my little catnip pouches. I usually have one on hand wherever I am.
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share with us?
Jellico: We synchronize shrimp when we sleep!
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
Jellico: I don't do anything to annoy my parents. I'm perfect.
Tugger: Actually, she loves to shred mom's beloved vintage couch, which annoys mom so much!
Jellico: Shh, no one asked you!
Q: Do you have a best friend? If so, who?
Tugger: Jelly is my best friend in the whole world! I love to snuggle up with her, and use her as a pillow when I sleep. I even offer to clean her shiny coat.
Jellico: Tugger only thinks he's my best friend, but really, he's my and mom's pet. Mom and I are the real best friends here. I'm pretty sure I'm a human in a cat body...
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
Jellico: I enjoy my morning routine of inspecting the catnip plant on the balcony. Tugger's favorite pastime is eating.
Tugger: And getting belly rubs! I also like to indulge in a sprinkling of catnip on my scratching post after dinner.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
Jellico: Tugger and I might act like kittens, but we're getting up there in the years. Mom is also getting fussier about what we eat (organic only), taking us to the vet more often, and generally watching our health. I think that's the real reason why mom started her cat business. Sure, catnip and toys are fun, but what really matters is that these products get me and Tugger moving and exercising, and feeling great. Having the business gives mom a chance to create a community for other wonderful cats and owners, who care about their cats' well-being just as much. So stop by the site, say hello to us on Twitter, or just do what Tugger does: lurk around the desk waiting eagerly for mom to announce the next product.
