Interviews With Cats: Otitis The Adorable Earless Rescue Cat!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: My name is Otitis (I’ll tell you the backstory about that later), but my human rarely calls me that. So many people have told my mom that I look like a seal pup, so I’m often called “Pup” or “Seal pup” – maybe that’s why I’ve been noticing the urge to act more like a dog…..I also have my moments when I get really excited and playful and my tail gets all puffy. I’m not scared, just very excited, so my mom refers to me as “Puff Daddy” in these moments.
I am ten and a half now, but boy do I act like a young spring chicken. I absolutely love to play with my brown paper bags, red laser beam of doom, and scratch at my ripple rug. I especially love my snuggles with mom no matter the time of day.
I was adopted from Baltimore and rescued by the incredible FRA (Feline Rescue Association), but soon my humans are going to move to Lancaster, PA. I’m pretty excited about it because they got a bigger apartment for me to run around and “Puff Daddy” in.
I’m an only child at the moment, and I love it that way. I want ALL the attention to myself. No sharing. Ever. Even when I go to my vacation home at Grandma and Grandpa’s farm, I quickly whip their dog into shape and become the head of the household.
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: There absolutely is! My name is Otitis (NOT OTIS), which means “ear infection.” My human is a speech therapist and learned all about otitis in her studies. Before my surgery to remove my ears, I had Otitis Externa (which meant I had really nasty cysts in my ears that caused me a lot of pain), so my human felt naming me after the thing that brought us together was quite appropriate….but I do like being called “Pup” much better.
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: NEW BROWN BAGS
.... Oh, and the fact that my human wrote a children’s book about me after raising a successful Kickstarter campaign. It’s currently in the works, but I can’t wait to autograph copies for all my fans. It’ll eventually be available on Amazon and some book stores.
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: The day my human adopted me. I was up for adoption for some time and people only ever inquired about me – never put in an application for me. My human was the first person to do that, and I couldn’t believe it! I thought I was going to be in a foster home forever. My now human picked me up and I was quite nervous – would she be nice? Would she snuggle with me? Would she give me treats when I’m a good boy? – but as soon as I got to my new home, I saw she bought me a new catnip banana (my favorite toy from my foster home) and I knew everything was going to work out just fine. I’ve never stopped snuggling my human since.
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
A: My Friskies treat ball. I’m quite the snobbish eater and am very picky about my food – only the best for myself, King Otitis. I have found my favorite junk food which is Friskies treats that mom puts in a ball that I have to roll around to get treats out. It helps me work off the calories before I indulge – gotta keep my handsome figure.
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
A: I’m never in trouble, my meowmy just loves me too much to yell at me….but my Grandma gets mad at me for booping her dog and whipping her dog into shape. Sorry, Grandma, but the world revolves around me!
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
A: My Gotcha-Day is my favorite holiday and I loved celebrating with my human. We just celebrated my first with my new human this past March and I got EXTRA treats and a crown…it was AWESOME! And boy, the snuggles I got that day were LIFE CHANGING.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I am without a doubt going to be a motivational speaker and attend college lectures to inspire people to love one another no matter their differences (and c’mon fellow friends, we’re all different somehow! We have to embrace this!) I might even pursue my Master’s in Speech Pathology like my mom did – I’ve helped her study so much that I probably know it better than her. She probably thought I was sitting on her books to be annoying, but I was really absorbing all the information..
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
A: So, I have this blue mouse toy and I cannot resist it. This stupid mouse is stuck inside a blue contraption and no matter how hard I work, I CAN NEVER get it out. I’ve been trying since the day my human bought it for me. One day I will prevail!
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?
A: I am excellent at snoring. My human tells me it’s adorable…what can I say? I’m just purr-fect. I also pride myself on my sneak attacks. If I’m puffed and someone comes around a corner, she better watch herself!
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
A: I’m very picky about my food. My mom will buy me some new food thinking I’ll love it, but I like the food I have now and don’t want that to change, so I just ignore it and wait for my human to give me my old food. Why fix something when it’s not broken, you know what I mean?
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Blue – like my incredibly handsome eyes.
Q: Do you have a best friend? If so, who?
A: I guess I’d say my best friend is my Grandparents’ dog…Sadie. She’s deaf like me too, so we just GET each other. She’s kind of annoying sometimes and just grovels until I play with her, so we CAN have fun.
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: Sleeping. Anywhere at anytime. I am an excellent sleeper and snuggler.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: I just want the world to know how much I’ve loved their support over the course of my rising internet fame. My human keeps me grounded so I don’t get a big, earless head so I just want to thank each and every one of my fans for being PURR-FECT!
