Interviews With Cats: Outdoorsy Mini Panther Franco!

In today's installment of Interviews With Cats, we talk to Franco, an awesome black cat from the great state of Pennsylvania! A former stray, he's now living the life eating turkey treats and plotting ways to get to his Humans' pet bird or as he calls it, their "treat-in-a-cage!"

Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.

A: My name is Franco. I have a lot of nicknames, but Snuggle Bug, Bug and Bubba are my favorites! I live in Doylestown, PA. I’m not sure how old I am...I was a stray on the property for a long time. At first everyone on the property wasn’t happy with me because I would pee on everything, but I would never go away! I always talked to the humans when they came close enough, and after a while they realized I was very friendly and not going anywhere. Once, my now Man Human picked me up and I was fine with it! I was taken in as a TNR because the landlord figured he gained another barn cat, but the vet said I’d have to be indoors for two weeks while I healed. The landlord asked my now Humans if they wouldn’t mind keeping me indoors for two weeks, since he already had two boy cats of his own. The second I appeared in their home, the Humans knew I would be their kitty, they loved me immediately! We have been a happy little family since then!

They call me Franco. James Franco. Just kidding, it’s just Franco. Or Snuggle Bug.

Q: Is there a special story behind your name?

A: When I first appeared on the property, I was following around the two girl barn cats a lot. I did this for almost 9 months or so. My now Lady Human joked that I needed a name that sounded suave and exotic. She called me Francisco, always saying it like Will Ferrel in Elf. I was almost called Pepe, like Pepe Le Pew, because I followed those girl kitties everywhere and I smelled really bad. After I was taken in, they decided Francisco was too long, so they removed a few letters and changed it to Franco!

Whatever, I smell GREAT!

Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?

A: Hmmm. I’m not sure! Once I was following Lady Human as she was walking around the property, and she went to the pen where the goats live. She OPENED THE GATE and the goats came out!! I ran all the way home as fast as I could and then watched her from the second story window while she walked around the property with the goats instead of me!! That was a scary, sort of exciting day.

Q: Tell us about your best day ever:

A: My Lady Human used to work part time from home, and it was always great to have a warm lap for hours! When she needed a break we would go on walks around the property or sit together in the gazebo. Those are the best days, when the Humans are home!

Q: What’s your favorite treat?

A: I love cheese, but I really go crazy for turkey! I know when there’s turkey in the house and beg for some every time the fridge is opened!

Jackpotty!

Jackpotty!

Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):

A: I don’t get in trouble much. I am a “good kitty”! I do wake up my Humans if my auto feeder doesn’t work, or if it didn’t work the day before and I’m afraid it won’t go off again. They tend to grumble about this for some reason.

Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?

A: I love my shoe string and my gray mouse from Ikea! I also love felt balls, although most of them are missing under things...I have a lot of toys I play with, but those are my favorite. Outside, I love tennis balls! They are hard to come by, but I love chasing them like the felt balls.

Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?

A: I listen very well! I come when I’m called and jump up or off of things when I’m told. Sometimes I have to jump on and off my brown box for treats. I do complain about it, but I’ll do it, because hey, you know, treats!

Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?

A: I like to roll in smelly dirt in the pony shed. Sometimes it even smells like pee! I tend to get baths or wiped down after these stunts!

Again. Like I said. I smell GREAT!

Again. Like I said. I smell GREAT!

Q: What’s your favorite color?

A: Blue - like my blue color that looks so nice with my eyes and fur! (Although I'd rather be naked outside!)

Q: Do you have a best friend? If so, who?

A: I like to visit the neighbor cats. They are indoor only but I see them in the window. Their names are JJ and Jerry. Jerry is a Mini Panther like me! There is a barn cat, her name is Brownie. We used to be friends when I was a stray, but I think I smell too much like Human and she doesn’t like me anymore. :(

Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?

A: I used to be able to go outside for hours at a time - it was great! I would nap in the gazebo or on a sunny log in the woods. Those were the good days! Unfortunately once I came home with scratches and got an infection… after that it became supervised outside time only. :(

Now my time in the great outdoors is supervised by my Humans. Womp womp.

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

A: I also live with a treat-in-a-cage named Cooper, and two snacks-in-water called fish. I am more interested in the treat-in-a-cage and stare at her a lot. She’s up really high, and I’m not the best jumper, so I only get to see her up close when her cage gets cleaned. I like to eat birds outside (well I did, back in my unsupervised outside time days!) so unfortunately I’m not allowed near treat-in-a-cage.
