Interviews With Cats: Figaro Francois, A Fun-Loving NYC Tuxedo Cat
It's another "Interviews With Cats," and today we learn all about a dapper tuxie named Figaro Francois, aka Figs. He's a New York City cat who loves his mama, pawty-ing with his brother Roni (noise complaints were filed!), and being upside down! Just take one look into those big green eyes, and we dare you not to fall in love.
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: My name is Figaro (aka Figgy) and I’m 4 years old. You will always find me upside down. I was diagnosed with Asthma when I was 2 years old and carry quite the cat-gut because of the steroids I’ve had to take. I live in New York City (Little Figgy in the Big City!) with my big brother, Trixie (aka Ronissimo or Roni). He’s 6 months older than me. I joined the family so that Roni would have company. I rarely answer to the name Figaro unless I’m in trouble. Mama refers to me as “Figs”, “Figglesworth”, “Monkey”, “Figeegs”, and “Figis Child”. I’m not sure what my name is anymore…
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: Originally, the shelter named me Prince Charming but Mama felt that that didn’t capture my true personality. So she named me after the kitty, Figaro, from the Disney movie Pinocchio. Mama swears we’re twins. My middle name is Francois because I’m fancy and I don a tuxedo daily.
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: When I was chosen to be the MeowBox cover meowdel for their website and when I was featured on BuzzFeed! I don’t know what that is but my Mama gave me Prosciutto when it happened and squished my face while yelling “you’re famous Figis!”
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: When I went to my forever home! It was very unexpected. Mama was only coming to the shelter to meet me in person after seeing my pictures to make sure that I would be a good match for Roni because he’s tough and not very friendly. Needless to say, my big clueless eyes stole the show and off we went to my home! My big brother beat me up a lot at first and sat on my head, but now we’re friends and I love him a lot. I even get a few punches in now!
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
A: Prosciutto! And my Mama’s arms when she puts on coconut oil. I like to start at her elbow and work my way up.
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
A: Grandma was babysitting me while Mama was gone and I was petrified going to her house. After Mama left I decided to run outside in the pouring rain and hide in the bushes. I forgot that I’m afraid of rain…and bushes…and the outside. But I’m also afraid of Grandma, so Mama drove ALL THE WAY BACK two hours later and pulled me out of the bushes. Then she swaddled me in towels and loved me. Dad says I’m a Mama’s boy.
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
A: Meowtin Luther King Day, because it shouldn’t matter if you’re black or white…or black and white! And my Meowmy gets off work to love on me all day!
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I never want to grow up. Being treated like a baby has too many perks. I like birthdays though, because then I get to eat shrimp.
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
L’Oréal Go 360 Clean “Scrublet”. I stole it out of the bathtub once and have never been so excited in my entire life. My eyes practically explode when I see it. I lose my scrublet daily so Mama buys more face wash just so I can have another.
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?
A: I make the most incredible air biscuits in the whole world. It’s all in the wrists.
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
A: I love bedtime with my parents. I lay in between their legs or next to their heads. At 5 am I bite their chins and walk on their backs and they put me outside. Then I get to serenade them with the song of my people! My Mama always lets me back in so I can breathe on my Dad until he wakes up. But I can’t think of anything I do that annoys them…
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Black. I think it makes me look svelte.
Q: Do you have a best friend(s)? If so, who?
A: My best friend is definitely Roni. He shows me how to cat and cleans my face. When Mama is at work we like to wrestle and break things. Mama once had a noise complaint filed by her neighbors all because of us. Roni and I pawty hard.
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: Hiding under the sheets while Mama tries to make the bed. Don’t tell her, but there are monsters in there. I have to chase them all away first!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: I would like to say thank you to everyone that has joined me on this journey and has supported me! Mama and I love you all so much. We have met so many wonderful kitties (and their humans) from all over the world and this has been a one-of-a-kind experience. Please adopt and don’t shop. Take a chance on shelter animals and with that I promise you we will not let you down! Now back to my nap…
