Interviews With Cats: Delaney & Matilda, Two Sassy Sisters

Today's Interviews With Cats brings us to Richmond, VA to interview Delaney Mae and Matilda Marigold or better known to their Instagram followers as @delaney_gram. These two have their eyes on the prize(s) - for one, that prize is a super-tempting, unreachable bag of kibble, and for the other that prize is what she would simply refer to as, "ORANGE MOUSEYYY!" Read on for purrs and giggles!

Q: Tell us about yourselves! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.

Delaney: Oh hey! I’m an 11 year old kitten living in Richmond, Virginia with my little (ahem “adopted”) 5 year old sister, Matilda! You may know me as Queen D, Mouse Kitten or Deezus. Along with being the HBIC (head b*tch in charge), you can also find me working as CEO of the Magic Toe Club, co-founding the Twinkles Fan Club, and supporting the grassroots Small Mouf Club.

Q: Is there a special story behind your name?

Matilda: I’ll take this one, D. My sister and I were both adopted from animal shelters, so we already had names from our previous humans. Delaney’s name was Mae, and mine was Marigold. Mom wanted us to always remember where we came from, so she used our shelter names as our middle names. Our legal names are Delaney Mae and Matilda Marigold.

Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?

Matilda: Paws down, the time I transformed from a cat into a dinosaur. The details aren’t clear because it all happened so fast. I remember being catnapped from under the bed and taken to a dark, unfamiliar place. It was loud with lots of buzzing and fur was flying everywhere! I had no idea what was going on, but suddenly I emerged, transformed into a DinoCat. Looking back on it now, it was obviously some sort of dinosaur time machine. #MatildasaurusRex

Q: Tell us about your best day ever:

Delaney: I remember it like it was yesterday. I dream of it. I fantasize about it. I long for it to happen again. Picture it: The laundry room, last Spring. A bag of kibble sits high on the shelf and mocks me every single day. Mom says it’s special food for the outdoor kitties. Pshaw. This food is for me. One day I decide this bag has mocked me long enough. I stealthily jump up to the washing machine, then onto the shelf. With the bag in sight, I knock it down with a forceful jab of the paw. CRASH! A smorgasbord of kibble lies before me, as far as the eye can see. It’s ALL MINE! I enjoyed the buffet until Mom came downstairs and caught me. It’s rumored that a video of this debauchery exists somewhere on the internet.

Q: What’s your favorite treat?

Delaney: I go wild for hair ties and cheese. Such a good combo; you should try it!

Matilda: Ribbons, iPhone cords, and toilet paper. Mmmm.

Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?

Matilda: ORANGE MOUSEY!!

Delaney: I prefer the company of humans rather than toys.

This thing will do too.

This thing will do too.

Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?

Delaney: I can do no wrong. I’m an angel from heaven.

Matilda: {eye roll} I get scolded for constantly stalking and sassing my sister. Doesn’t she understand that’s what sisters DO!?

Touch Orange Mousey and you die.

Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?

Delaney: I can shoot rainbows out of my magic toe.

Matilda: I turn into a gremlin if you feed me after midnight.

Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy:

Delaney: One day last summer, I opened the screen door all by myself and snuck into our back yard without anyone knowing. I had a blast running around in circles in the yard, before I got yelled at and tossed back into the house!

Q: Do you have a best friend(s)? If so, who?

Delaney: My BFF’s are Nara from @cuterightmrow and Twinkles from @felineanddandy

Q: Anything else you’d like to share?

Delaney: Listen, kittens. Instruct your humans to consider adopting a cat from your local animal shelter so you can have a sibling, and save a life. Despite our differences, I’m very grateful to have Tilda around. Our little family has gone through many changes this past year, and I’m so happy to have a sister to share our new life with!

Matilda: ORANGE MOUSSEYYYY!!!

Delaney: Sigh.
