Interviews With Cats: Beautiful Bisou The Tabby!
Welcome back to another installment of Interviews With Cats! This week we "chat" with Bisou the tabby whom you may know from Instagram (@bisouthecat) - she's always wearing a flower crown or adorably perched on a wooden table. Can you believe this refined meowdel used to be a feral kitty? Another win for #AdoptDontShop!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: Hi there! Thanks so much for having me on the blog. My name is Bisou and I live in Portland, Oregon with my mom and dad. My furriends call me Bibi, Boo or Coo. Sometimes people mistake me for a boy; for the record, I’m a girl! I’m 3 years old. Technically 3 ½. We like to count half birthdays in our family, because on your half birthday you get special treats and extra belly rubs.
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: It means kiss in French! I think when mom named me, she was hoping I’d take to my namesake and love giving her kisses. Unfortunately for mom, I’m not a big fan of kisses. She never gives up though, and sometimes we clunk our heads together when I’m going in for a cheek rub and she’s trying to lay a big smooch on me!
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: We had just moved into a tiny apartment. There wasn’t much space for me to pounce around, or many good nap spots. Then one day, there was a lot of banging and clattering. When I came out from the closet where I’d been hiding from all the commotion, the living room wall had been transformed into a jungle gym! Mom and dad had attached three crates to the wall for me to jump on! I loved napping on them, bird watching from them, and towering above human visitors from the highest one! We live in a bigger apartment now, but my crates are still one of my favorite places to be.
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: The best day of my life was the day mom adopted me! I was a scrappy feral kitty for the first year of my life, until I was trapped, vaccinated and spayed. Eventually I ended up the Oregon Humane Society, where I hid in a corner, avoiding eye contact with the other cats for almost a week before mom found me. Mom hugged me tight and I heard her say she was going to take me home. But then I was put back in with the other cats! I was very confused, and as mom waved goodbye I put my paw up on the glass to say “don’t leave without me!”. I was so sad and lonely until the next morning, when mom came back to get me! It turned out she needed a day to get my food, litter box and toys ready. It was the happiest day of my life!
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
A: I love anything fishy, and anything my mom makes because she makes my treats heart shaped!
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
A: I love Christmas because I have my very own stocking! It says “I Fish You a Merry Christmas.” Santa fills it with treats and toys for me to find on Christmas morning.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I already have my dream job! I’m a meowdel for Crafts and a Cat, the blog I write with my mom. I’m such a natural at meowdeling, I even do it in my sleep sometimes.
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
A: I love anything that will go flying across the floor for me to chase. My current favorite is two bobby pins stuck together!
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?
A: I’m a wonderful conversationalist! When I was first adopted, I didn’t make a peep, and struggled to speak for a long time (like many feral cats). Sometimes I’d open my mouth and no sounds would come out. How frustrating! But ever since I got the hang of chatting, I haven’t stopped! My favorite thing to say is, “uh uh!” That’s my answer when mom and dad ask if I want a cat sibling.
A: I have a very independent spirit. Mom and dad wish I would snuggle up with them more!
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: I can’t pick a favorite because I love all the colors, and the flashier the better! Like this toy I have that has rainbow tinsel attached. I go crazy for it! Is shiny a color? If so, it’s my favorite.
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: Unfortunately, between my beauty sleep, meowdeling and blogging, I don’t have much time left for hobbies. But when I do get a little free time, I love to watch Netflix with mom and dad. My current favorites are The Great British Bake Off and A Cat in Paris.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: My mom and I just launched our blog, www.craftsandacat.com. Mom writes about DIY projects, recipes, and home and garden ideas, and I meowdel. In our first posts, we grew cat grass, went blueberry picking and made blueberry and chicken cat treats!
