Interviews With Cats: Billy Boots and Walker Wellies
Today's "Interviews With Cats" brings you a real treat - in the form of two exotic shorthair cats living in Durham, NC, named Billy Boots and Walker Wellies. They enjoy chin scritchies and naps (duh). Follow their adventures on Instagram and read their hilarious interview below!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: We are three-year-old littermates born on September 10, 2013. We’re native North Carolinians who now reside in Durham.
Billy Boots: BB, monkey, monkey butt, bubba, Sir William Boots, cookies and cream baby, B
Walker Wellies: Walkie, Walkie bear, cookie butter, Johnny Walker, Walker J
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: Mama met both of us when we were kittens. Walkie was destined for a show cat career, so only Billy came home with her. His name was already Billy, but she added the “Boots” to honor our bio-mom’s name.
Here’s where mama shows why she lives alone with cats: Walkie was a failed show cat, after just a couple of months, and it was decided that he would come live with us. Twins separated and later reunited? Parent Trap. We already had an American Lindsay Lohan with the “Boots,” so we added a little British Lindsay Lohan flair with the “Wellies” (which are what most Brits call their rainboots). ***We want to clarify that though we are technically child stars, we will not be having public meltdowns.
Editor's Note: We have no idea what in tarnation this previous paragraph is talking about, but it stays because it contains the phrases: "Lindsay Lohan," "separated/reunited," and "public meltdowns." Good enough for us!
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: It’s always an exciting time when mama comes home from work, a trip, or being behind a closed door (situations which feel equally like an eternity). We talk, sing meowy songs, and snuggle. Walkie meows until he is picked up or mama sits down to allow for easy access.
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: Our best day ever would be a Saturday with mama. Napping all day on the couch- purring, snuggling, head-butting, and doing nothing strenuous. At about 3:30, we would leave a large gift in the litter box and then eat all our food. Our tummies and hearts would feel so full!
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
A: Chin scratches. We don’t really care about food treats, but a good chin scratch is a treat we’ll take from anyone.
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
A: We have only broken one item in our entire lives - a very large glass lamp. It was EVERYWHERE. We also broke it while meowmy was having a relaxing bubble bath after a hard day. It was the purrfect storm of trouble! (There was no discipline involved… she just got a lamp with a metal base.)
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
A: Our favorite holiday is Christmas!! We are very good boys and never mess with the tree or ornaments, but we love looking at them and getting to see our Grandpurrents and family! The thick sweaters pick up all our extra hair and we have our own cat tree full of cat ornaments.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand on “The Judy Garland Show”
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
A: For Billy, it is the “Cat Dancer” toy. He loves to snort like crazy and try to catch it.
For Walker, it is the fuzzy remnant of a toy on a stick that got sucked up into the evil vacuum. Mama brought it back from Barcelona and Walkie makes four-legged biscuits over it and meows/howls. We lovingly call it his “furry girlfriend.”
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?
A: I can’t say we are good at any particular thing… and isn’t that what makes cats so appealing in the first place? Billy has a magic toe bean that grants wishes (but that’s probably not under the “talent” category)
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
A: BB likes to sing meowy songs whenever he remembers mama is not in the room… which happens often. At all points of the night and day. Even if she is on the other side of the kitchen island.
Walkie does not like to clean his own face. He’s a little grubby monster most days when mama comes home!
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: “Forcibly” it is pink. Given the choice, mama always picks out the pink toys.
Q: Do you have a best friend?
A: We don’t get out much, but we love our hu-cousin, Miranda! Well… we learned to love her when she learned that we love the quiet.
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: Napping. We love to nap more than anything in the world. Mama said we get it from her and sometimes she worries people think we are posting the same photo session on Instagram… because we’re always in the same position. Sleeping. Living our best lives!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: We leave you with this statistically proven fact: flat faces are better than pointy faces. Yeah, we said it. Fiiiiightin’ words. Just kidding… kind of. Go snuggle and live your best life!
