Interviews With Cats: Q the Mountain Climbing Adventure Cat
It's that time ... time for another "Interviews With Cats"! This week we interview Quandary ("Q" for short) who just had her first birthday on April 18th! She is an adventure cat in Colorado who loves leash hiking, exploring the wild, and even helped her cat dad propose to her meowmy! No job is too big for this adventure babe - read on here and follow her on Instagram to find out what she's up to next!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: Good Meowning! My official name is Quandary Q Lotus Lady, though I will ignore you if you call me that. I usually go by Quandary or Q for short. I [just had my] first birthday on April 18th! I live in Fort Collins, Colorado - but love to explore anywhere and everywhere with my hoomans. I have two older siblings that also claim the hoomans. Zoe is 8 years old and super extra fluffy. She likes to give me baths (and also let me know when I’m being too rowdy with her). Nimbus is 2 years old! He’s my best bud. We like to run, wrestle and play furrever. We also snuggle up close and take naps together.
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: My unique name stems from where I first met my hoomans. My hooman daddy actually proposed to my crazy-cat-lady meowmy using me (and a ring) at the base of Quandary’s Peak where they had been hiking. It’s a famous 14er here in Colorado! They started calling me “Q” after I quickly lived up to the meaning of Quandary. (See story under when I got in trouble…)
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: I get very excited about spreading awareness that kitties can do anything and everything that dogs can do, but better! I’ve been lucky enough to be featured in several articles on AdventureCatsOrg, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, and more! I love to show people that cats aren’t as stereotypical as they may think. I hope to increase adoption rates for other rescue kitties by breaking down these stereotypes.
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: I’m very excited to be a flower girl at my hooman’s wedding! As I was a proposal kitten, I’m now going to also be a little flower fairy cat at their ceremony in the meowtains.
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
A: Meowmy’s homemade treats are the cat’s meow, beez kneez, da best!
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
A: When I was 6 weeks old, I was practicing some sweet parkour off the dining room table with my siblings when I didn’t quite know how to “cat” just yet and didn’t land properly. I spent several weeks in a variety of casts! I had to go to the emergency vet TWICE! Once when it first happened and again when some newbie vet lady put my cast on tooooo tight! I had lots of x-rays and cast changes. It cost the hoomans a lot paychecks. They were more scared than mad though - meowmy cried longer than I didz.
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
A: Catsmas has been my favorite so far! Hoomans got me soooooo many boxes to play in and lots of paper to scratch up! There was catnip everywhere. It was a flippin’ blast.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I want to be a purrfessional Explorer! I’d love to visit as many states and countries as possible. I love meeting new furrends on the trails and sharing my story. Everyone is very interested in a hiking cat fur some reason. I had my first airline flight in August of 2015 when I was four months old. TSA thought my potty litter was a bomb and tookz it away for a test. I gotz a pat down too.
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
A: Though the hoomans spoil me (as they should) with loads of toys, my absolute favorite toy is my Mousey. He’s a little ratty and well loved. He used to have a motor in him that made him run across the floor. Now he’s held together by a clip. I love, love, love to play fetch with him! I bring him to the hoomans, drop him and wait for them to throw him. Then I do this about 10,000 more times until hooman stops. I don’t know why hooman stops. This game is fun…furr literally ever. Sometimes if Meowmy is sleeping too late and I’m ready to play, I’ll dip it in my water bowl and drop Mousey on her face. I also like to be very vocal in the morning to let everyone know the sun is up and the day has started!
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?
A: I’m an adventure cat! I love to follow my hoomans on all their adventures. I love to hike, boulder, go camping and lots more! I’m an excellent campurr and love to snuggle in hooman’s sleeping bag.
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
A: The hoomans don’t love it when I wake them up from their slumber for a game of fetch, usually by presoaking one of my toys in the water bowl and dropping it slopping wet on one of their faces or pillow accompanied by my most loudest, screeching meow.
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Green! I love to smell, sniff, scratch and try to eat all the green stuff on our hikes. Meowmy never lets me chew on the green stuff. She’s no fun.
Q: Do you have a best friend? If so, who?
A: Out of my siblings, Nimbus is my best playmate - he’s a bit bigger than me at the meowment but what I lack in size I have in endless energy!
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: I love to be out and about with the hoomans. Hiking and camping are my absolute favorite pastimes. I love to jaunt along side them while climbing all of Colorado’s meowtains or hitch a ride in the pack or on their shoulders when it’s more busy or I’m tired. I love to go camping and play with the bugs. Meowmy says I’m the best heated blanket she’s ever had.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: Don’t shop, adopt! We hope by sharing our adventures that we can break down the stereotype of what owning a cat means! We hope that by changing people’s preconceived ideas of what owning a cat means and broadening this scope will help increase adoption & rescue rates.
