One Imam in Istanbul, Turkey decided to open up his mosque to stray cats in the area. And the response has been a-meowzing!

Like many cities, Turkey's former capital, Constantinople (now Istanbul) has a stray cat problem, and these poor kitties have to rough out the freezing winters outdoors. It's so bad that the city has acquired the nickname, "Catstantinople." The Instagram account Cats of Istanbul has over 7,000 followers and the hashtag #CatsOfIstanbul has over 66,000 tags. They even have their own webpage.

Imam Mustafa Efe (an Imam is the Muslim equivalent of a priest) has opened his mosque to "guests" of all shapes and sizes to get away from the cold - including street cats - who have been taking him up on the offer.

The most famous (i.e., cutest) has been this mother cat who was filmed carrying in her litter one by one by the scruff of their necks. She placed them all right in the pulpit that Efe leads prayer from, making themselves right at home!

So sweet. And so refreshing to see the word "mosque" NOT in relation to a politically-charged scandal.
