All About NJ's 81st Annual Garden State Cat Show And Expo, July 15-16!
This summer is chock full of cat events, and we're excited to tell you all about Edison, NJ's Garden State Cat Show & Expo, going down July 15-16, 2017. Not only will it feature a cat show, but also a cat caricaturist, a feline agility course, a pet CPR course, cat adoptions, and 50+ cat-themed vendors so that you can shop til you drop. Check out full deets ahead:
A little background about the Garden State Cat Show: it is a registered non-profit that was organized in 1936. It's the oldest cat club affiliated with the Cat Fancier's Association (CFA), and is a huge advocate of cat welfare - something this blog can definitely get behind!
Their cat shows, seminars, and educational presentations have cat welfare in mind as their primary goal. They also provide financial support to feline research and welfare facilities. Profits from the annual Expo go to local feline welfare groups, humane societies, no-kill shelters, and the Winn Feline Foundation (a non-profit organization that helps to fund cat health studies).
Here's what you can expect from this year's show:
Cat Caricaturist Steve Nyman
Steve Nyman has caricatured the toast of the town, from Whoopi Goldberg to Bill Murray - and he'll be at the Cat Expo, ready to draw YOU (or your cat)! Bring a picture of your fur child (phone pic works too!) and Steve can create a hilarious masterpiece ready for your sad, empty wall.
Well, this one's obvious! The cat show will feature 300+ pedigreed cats and household pets who will be competing for rosettes. Ambassador cats will be on site for pets, too! Just look for them throughout the event hall.
Noah's Ark Cat Workshop
Kids will love this plush toy workshop - they can choose from a variety of animals (including bears, puppies, penguins, and more!). Then, they stuff their new pal, name the animal, and take it home with its very own birth certificate.
Feline Agility Course
Not only for the "show" cats, you can have your own pet try this one out (this requires registering your pet to compete in the Household Pet Competition). The cool cats are showing everyone that agility courses are not only for dogs - check out this adorable Tonkinese kitten training for the CFA agility course:
Did you know there are over 43 types of cat breeds? You can learn about them (and meet most of them!) at the Expo, and learn how different they are both in looks and personality! CFA cat breed expert Sharon Roy (and also one of the judges) will present the breeds and answer any questions. Check out the schedule for presentation times.
Cat Photo Booth
12+ rescue organizations will be on hand with cats and kittens for adoption
Raffle and 50/50 Cash Draw
Enter the raffle to win cool cat prizes! Prizes will be displayed and you enter by placing your ticket in the container corresponding to that prize. There will be one drawing each day.
The 50/50 Cash Draw will also be each day of the Expo, and you could win some cold, hard, CASH (which I'm sure you will immediately spend on gear for your cat.... amirite?)
