Chicago's First Arcade-Themed Cat Cafe Opened This Weekend
Yes, you heard right - Chicago now has an arcade-themed cat cafe and lounge. It's called CatCade and its grand opening was on Saturday, August 19.
CatCade is the brainchild of Christopher Gutierrez and Shelly Casey, cat-lovers who want to save as many cat lives as possible. Their mission is to take cats in high-kill shelters high-risk situations and put them in the CatCade, in hopes that they will find their forever home with one of its visitors.
They traveled the world visiting cat cafes and were inspired to create their own take on a cat cafe - complete with vintage arcade games (that yes, still work!) and a cafe/lounge area for visitors to hang out in and work.
The CatCade is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization so it relies heavily on donations as well as the $15 guest entry fee (which includes 1 hour with the cats, a complimentary beverage, access to their free wifi, and free arcade games). If you choose to adopt a cat, the fee is $100 and your $15 one-hour entree is deducted from that amount.
And best of all, these guys made it clear they won't be putting up with jerks:
