Mayoral Meows: Barsik The Cat Has 91% Of Votes In Siberian Town
Barsik - an 18-month old Scottish Fold cat - has gained approval of over 91% of 5,400 participants in an online mayoral poll. The poll pitted Barsik against six (human) mayoral hopefuls in the Siberian city of Barnaul.
Barsik's popularity boils down to a couple factors: the competitors' platforms are not widely known amongst the townspeople, as well as the general disgruntled state of the residents of Barnaul. Embezzlement, nepotism, and general corruption has plagued the political field in Barnaul, leaving the residents of this Russian city unsure of who they can trust. Clearly, their skepticism has cleared the way for a new face to enter the picture. Also, there's no denying how adorable Barsik is.
CNN reports that:
"By Barsik's eyes I see he is concerned about the people," wrote [a] supporter, Yury Vladimirovich.
The campaign slogan is: "Only Mice Don't Vote For Barsik!" and the team is raising funds to put up a billboard in a prominent place in the city.
Sadly, Barsik is not a registered candidate and as such, will be unable to take office.
