Pics From Tokyo's Bakeneko Festival: A Halloween Cat-Themed Parade
Show of hands: who else is thinking we need one of these in the good ole US of A? On Sunday, Tokyo's Bakeneko Festival celebrated "Supernatural Cats" with a parade featuring people of all shapes and sizes dressed as - cats!
The Kagurazaka neighborhood, where the parade took place, is the setting of a novel by Netsuke Soseki called, "I Am A Cat," which features a cat's point of view on Japanese society.
Anyone could march in the parade. The only catch - you had to be dressed as a cat!
From Huffington Post:
The term “Bakeneko” means “changed cat” and is used in Japanese folklore for cats that have developed supernatural powers, usually in their old age, according to Yokai.com.
