Interviews With Cats: Approved By Archie!
Dare you to take one look at Archie - our Interview subject this week - and NOT fall in love! Impossible, we say! This ginger cutie is well known on Instagram (@approvedbyarchie) for his adorable costumes and all around gingerness. Read his full interview MEOW!
Q: Tell us about yourself! Name, nickname, age, city, siblings, etc.
A: Helloooooo… My name is Archie, but I’m also known as "Archie-Stop!," "Archie-Don’t!," "Archie-Leave It!," and “Archie-You’re So Naughty!" Sometimes when she’s feeling all mushy and stuff, my Mom calls me “Bubba” as in “Baby” - not the Deep South Bubba.
I’m 2 years old and was born on Halloween 2014. That’s my favorite holiday, but I’ll tell you more about that later.
My Cat Mom was a Calico barn cat in Pennsylvania and my Dad was a Bengal (don’t ask, don’t tell). I believe it was a short-lived romance, very short indeed.
At the moment I’m an only fur-child. My Mom has mentioned getting me a baby ginger fur-sister. The vet says I have to get a fur-sister ‘cause I’m a bully Alpha male…. What’s up with that? So, when “kitten season” rolls around this year, we hope to find the perfect baby ginger girlie. Don’t tell anyone, but when we do, her name is gonna be Alfie.
Q: Is there a special story behind your name?
A: On December 29th, 2014, my Mom found out that I was going to come live with her just 2 days later! She spent hours and hours and hours trying to decide what to call me. She made lists, she asked all her friends on Facebook and pretty much drove everyone crazy. (Indecision is a regular thing in our house). She happened to see an “Archie” Comic Book somewhere during that time and she knew straight away…THAT WAS IT!!! My name was gonna be Archie….
Q: What’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you?
A: Hmmmm…. Wow…. You mean apart from coming to live with my Mom?… And please keep in mind that I’m a house cat in a New York City apartment. A big trip for me is to the vet. Although ... it’s pretty darn exciting being selected for this interview. And joining Instagram and making some awesome furiends was real exciting too!
Q: Tell us about your best day ever:
A: Well the best day ever would have to be when I came to live with my Mom. Think about it. My Cat-Mom was a Barn Cat. My Humom had a New York city apartment with delicious food and treats, all the toys and Cat Balls I could ever want, plus warm comfy beds! I felt like George Jefferson from “The Jeffersons."
Q: What’s your favorite treat?
A: Oh, that’s easy! It’s Orijen Regional Red Treats. There’s also a paste that comes in a tube that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. But they don’t sell it here in ‘Merica, so my furiend’s Mom sends it to me from England. They also send me some treats called “Dreamies”…. Ermagawd…. They’re so delish!
Q: Tell us about a time you got in trouble with your meowmy (or cat dad):
A: It might be easier to tell you about a day I didn’t get in trouble. Heh Heh… I like to climb up on the headboard of my Mom’s bed and kamikaze dive down. Unfortunately, I’ve come to realize that kitteh claws aren’t good for mahogany headboards. (STRIKE 1) Things came to a head recently when I did a kamikaze dive during the night when my Mom was asleep. Let’s just say I miscalculated my landing and landed on my Mom’s shoulder. I didn’t realize that I had such a strong tailwind! If I recall, there was a significant amount of blood shed (not mine) …. (STRIKES 2 & 3)! Oddly enough, I haven’t been back up there since.
Q: What’s your favorite holiday and why?
A: That’s an easy one too! Halloween!! It’s always a lot of fun because it’s my birthday too! My Mom goes a little crazy with the costumes, but she says I’m a good sport ‘cause I let her dress me up in Halloween costumes - which in turn means there’s lots of treats coming my way in the form of bribery.
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: I think it might be kinda cool to be an official taste tester at the Orijen Food Factory. Quality Control is sooooo important.
Q: What’s your favorite toy and why?
A: Wow… That’s a hard one! I have sooooo many. Not that I’m spoiled or anything you understand. But I love love love my laser pointer…. I also like my catnip taco toys . Oh! And my rotisserie chicken that my furiend’s Mom made and sent to me! And sometimes I like to just go old-school and play with my Cat Dancer.
Q: Do you have any special talents you’d like to share?
A: I sit on demand, which comes in handy when I’m meowdaling all my costumes and outfits. I also play fetch. I even come when I’m called (If I feel like it of course)! I’m also an excellent hunter and recently caught a fly that had flown uninvited into our apartment.
Q: What do you do that annoys your parents?
A: I get in trouble when I eat things I shouldn’t. Last year I was very sick for a while and the vet couldn’t work out what was wrong with me. We eventually found out that I have PICA and I eat things I shouldn’t. My favorite is plastic…. any kind of plastic….. I love it!!!! It makes Mom crazy when she sees me chewing on something I shouldn’t be. I had a jolly old time at Christmas. I developed a taste for tinsel….it only took a couple of sparkly #2’s to work that one out. My Mom’s a real Sherlock Holmes.
Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: I love all bright colors….especially bright SPARKLY colors! I also love red - especially that red laser dot!!!
Q: Do you have a best friend(s)? If so, who?
A: I have so many amazing friends from all over the world! That’s a particularly awesome thing about Instagram. I have a huuuuuge group of amazeball furiends, which includes a group of besties…. can I give a shout out to a couple of fur-peeps? Hey Apollo & Artemis (@themainecoonlife), AND George, Fluff & Izzy (@gingersgeorgefluff)!
Q: Do you have a favorite pastime?
A: Playing, Snacking, and Sleeping (REPEAT).... although I do get very excited when my Mom comes home from work. We have a ritual where she gets down on the floor and plays with me. After being alone all day, I like it when Mom fusses over me!
Q: Who would you like to nominate for our next Interview?
A: I think you would like to get to know George, Fluff and Izzy. They are all senior kittehs that their awesome Mom adopted!
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: Please Adopt, Don’t Shop! Please Spay/Neuter your Pets! Please Do Not Declaw!
